By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.  But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?  Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

Mercy Ministry

Serving dinner to those in need in Oakland

Serving dinner to those in need in Oakland

The gospel-soaked life is to be expressed in love. Love is not simply a sentiment or a feeling - it is sacrificial action. Jesus loved us by sacrificing himself for us on the cross. We live out the gospel as we sacrificially serve the poor, the elderly, widows, orphans, immigrants and all those marginalized by society.

As a church community, we engage the needs of the East Bay through various mercy projects. Our primary partnerships are: supporting foster and adopted families with Foster the Bay, doing improvement works with Project Peace, feeding the homeless with College Avenue Presbyterian (Oakland) and First Presbyterian at Hayward, and packing shoebox gifts with Samaritan's Purse. We also assist individuals with various personal, housing, employment and other needs. And we are always looking for opportunities to obey God's command to "seek the peace of the city." (Jeremiah 29:7)
